Given the ongoing conflicts, alongside the rapid development of technologies like artificial intelligence and drones, there is an increasing risk of weapons, explosives, and dual-use tools being trafficked and potentially misused within the European Union by organized crime groups and terrorist actors. The diverse types of explosive ordnance (EO) and military-grade explosives found in these conflict zones underscore the urgent need for specialized training for law enforcement personnel in EU Member States, particularly those in Bomb Disposal and Special Intervention Units, from the EEODN and ATLAS networks, respectively.
This workshop aims to equip these Units with current knowledge on the recognition, identification, and hazard assessment of EO and explosives used conflict areas (Ukraine, Israel/Gaza). In addition to addressing conflict-related threats, the course will also examine the implications of AI and drone technologies in relation to explosives, providing practical insights and experimental case studies to better prepare participants for emerging operational challenges.
